Game Art Foundations
Certificate III in Screen and Media CUA31015
The Game Art Foundations course will teach students how to develop 3D environments, characters and animation for interactive games. Game art development is an exciting and dynamic entertainment medium that is quickly being adapted into traditional areas such as architecture, product design and film making as well as emerging technologies such as VR and AR.
The course covers the techniques of making 3D artwork for games including:
- Concept art
- 3D modeling
- Texturing
- Animation
- Lighting
- Gray boxing
- Creating animated game characters
- Creating interactive environments
- Adding audio
- Interactive game play elements
The Game Art Foundations course teaches students best practice for a creative and iterative pipeline with the importance on developing quality 3D artwork for games. Students will work with real-time game engines to showcase their creativity and build their technical knowledge in order to maximise their artwork within fun and engaging game environments.

Hardware Requirements
The minimum computer specifications that we recommend for Certificate courses are:
- i5 microprocessor
- 8 GB ram
- This is a 100% online delivered course so there is a reasonable bandwidth speed required (512kbps minimum recommended) and downloads may vary from 60MB – 100MB per week for classes. An initial download of the software will be needed and this is around 4GB.
- Headset with microphone
The minimum suggested computer specifications are:
- i7 microprocessor
- 8 GB ram
- 6 series NVidia graphics card
- This is a 100% online delivered course so there is a reasonable bandwidth speed required (512kbps minimum recommended) and downloads may vary from 60MB – 100MB per week for classes. An initial download of the software will be needed and this is around 4GB.
- Headset with microphone
If your current computer meets these specifications, you will be able to install and run the software required for your course.
Software Requirements
Online students will need the following software to successfully complete the course:
- Autodesk Maya - Autodesk
- Photoshop – Student versions can be purchased through the Adobe creative suite. Gimp can be used as a free alternative, however all our course resources and teacher knowledge revolve around using the Creative Cloud applications.
- Web browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox
- Adobe Connect plugin
- PDF Reader such as Adobe Acrobat reader
Students will also need an internet connection, preferably broadband for streaming live discussions, collaboration and downloads.
